Exclamation Homes and Guild Wars

HOMES

Well i would like to own a home in guild wars for reasons of secret trading places so we can expand places where we can build places for homes

GUILD WARS

Well if we could type/guild war then the name of the guild we could battle we could expand the gvg and we could fight with guilds and stuff we can't party and if we both do atumatic match then we will always fight against each other

so what do u think

I was thinking about the homes topic yesterday. It has been brought up on many occasions on the forum but i have never contributed to the threads...mainly because i never really had a firm opinion on the matter.

Here are my thoughts.....

I would like a home for my character because...

It is a fun, novelty item that the devs could very easily implement because everyone gets their own copy of the map.
No rows of other peoples houses permanently blotting the landscape since it is on your account.
It (i assume) would just be a case of choosing a great location for building your house.
The houses would be prefabs. Just select the type of house you want from an NPC, pay the applicable purchase price and choose the exact location of the site.
How could this be done with unlevelled terrain? Hmm, tough one for the devs. Perhaps having extended foundations that intersect the landscape then clip the intersecting walls off and match the door with the terrain (i used to make maps and i know the only other ways are edit the terrain or provide a portal or teleporter which takes you directly inside).

Hopefully if such an idea came to fruition, they wouldn't offer us a placement at X,Y or Z. I would rather go out in the fields and place a marker which would spawn the house.
Perhaps a screenshot of the exact spot could be sent to the devs and they could insert it manually at the closest place possible (this would undoubtedly take up precious manpower and may only be possible with a mini "housing" expansion pack, to pay for labour/creation costs).
Even though such an idea isn't likely to be drawn up soon, if ever, i still have a list in my head of the places i would want it.

What would a house be used for? What's the point?

1) A storage facility. You go home, drop your stuff on the table and go back on your missions.

2) A place to chat with friends.

3) Novelty, put simply "something interesting".

4) A massive goldsink << Purchase prices could be anything. If you want a mansion...pay 5,000,000 gold. If you want a log cabin, pay 200,000 gold.

Either way, houses should have a mortgage/rent to pay, which further takes gold from the system.

5) If houses were implemented, imagine the amount of fun items that could drop from monsters and help the struggling economy along.
Carpets, curtains, tables, chairs, paintings, vases, lanterns (since we appear to be lacking electricity )
"WTS A great mahogany table and two matching chairs for 3k"
"WTB a good rug!"

You could even have rare antique furniture... "WOW, a gold vase!!"

Guild wars has so much potential to aspire even further than it already has, if only people would let go of the "this isn't an MMORPG" mentality.
Who said only MMORPG's have houses and all the fun stuff? Guild wars could still have it and not be unlabelled from it's groundbreaking new genre.
Imagine the possibilities before knocking the idea. I'm sick of hearing the whiners screaming "It's not an MMORPG".
Granted, they are entitled to their opinion too but if they want to sell tanned hide, pick up charr hides, buy ecto, sell tanned hide, pick up charr hides, buy ecto, sell tanned hide, pick up charr hides, buy ecto forever...more fool them.

I want a mansion and i'm saving up for that possibilty - the ULTIMATE novelty.

I want a little Polynesian hut with a gorgeous hunk in a grass skirt handing me a nice frothy coconut drink every 1/2 hour or so and waiting on me hand and foot!

That said...I think it's a great idea. I know that in my former guild, we were NEVER going to get a guild hall because we didn't PvP/GvG. It would be nice for PvE players to have a 'meeting' place for guildmates and for all of the other reasons you mentioned, TD.

I had proposed a "camp site" for PvE guilds that could be earned through, for instance, a series of PvM quests.

1. You have Xunlai Storage that follows you
2. You have Private Message that you can chat with friends secretly, also you have the ability to go anywhere in a second to chat with friends in a place, also Guild Hall.
3. Homes would just be like Guild Hall
4.Guild Halls are already expensive, and having 1 home for 1 person cost 200k, thats WAY more expensive then guild hall itself.

How small is this storage space? Besides, i mentioned possible new items such as tables etc which you could furnish the home with....you know, novelty stuff...fun!

It's a game and it needs fun items and systems. If i wanted to write messages to people instead of "hanging out with them in a virtual world" i would use pen and paper or even email...yes, computers have email nowadays.

We all know how fun those are, pfff.

Your point is?
Comparing costs to a structure that is purely for PvP purposes adds no weight to your arguement.
I sir, am a PvE player and "virtual homes" are a possible PvE feature.

To further add, you sound like a PvP type of person because you mention "guild hall" in every point except #1.
Why then, would you be so obsessed with smacking down such a potentially fantastic introduction when it has absolutely no impact upon your gameplay experience?
Would you be forced to buy one? No, certainly not.

If you're going to disagree about something that wouldn't affect you, at least give your post some substance.

No thanks. What if I want to take a month off from GW? Or six? I have a hard enough time paying rent in real life.

I'd build my house right in the middle of prime farming real estate. Map to house. Run outside. Kill kill kill. Woohoo!

If we get new guild halls in the expansion, they should have houses for 100 people (or even rooms). In this you would have: your own private safe (Xunlai has crap for space, we all know it); furniture you can get from drops or NPC's (or people)). I'm sure something as large as a table and a bed would have to be purchased/traded, as nothing would "drop" it.
Ice Imp drops a mahogany dinner table. Just wouldn't work.

Also, while you're in your room/house, your 'party' window should be replaced with 'guests'. You can send invitations, recieve requests, and kick unwanted visitors.
The only thing that will be a problem is how we would place the furniture we get. We could totally rip off The Sims, but that would invoke many big fat lawsuits... as is the problem with just ripping off the Auction House idea/system.

You should be able to recieve/send invitations/requests to someone's property by the same way you would enter an emote... that way being in different guilds won't stop people from going to each other's places for private meetings.
Also, there shouldn't be so strict a cap for characters while you are in your home, as otherwise just walking outside a town would be the same.
And, your party should be brought with you into the home when you cross the threshold (which only responds to you)... if you make the party outside the home.
And you shouldn't be able to escape to it during guild battles.

Now, the only problem would be how many polynomials would be involved...

The reason it should be in the guild hall is because otherwise people count stake land claims near prime farming ground... not that the farming grounds being near cities is really doing anything now.

I love the houses idea. Anyone ever played Fable on Xbox, you could buy a house and rent it out, or buy it and put an NPC wife in it. She gave me some good items too! Houses would add an entire different dimension to GW. Great idea!

Ristaron...why wouldn't a monster drop a table?

It's only got to be typed in spreadsheet buddy
We could have imperial star destroyers dropping from monsters if Anet wanted them to! (Granted they have to draw them up first).

Willow, if you couldn't afford the upkeep, you wouldn't buy one then..would you?

It's meant to be an uber novelty item for the people who can afford it and cheaper alternatives for those that can't afford the best.
If you need to take a break for a month and have a house...let me know and i will provide you with the rent money.
So agree will you please?

Optional ultimate novelty items!!1

"Hey look at my uber fissure armor, noobzor ranger"

"Nah! My mansion looks better than your tin-man outfit"

I fail to see what the problem is, it certainly would help with the economy me thinks. A gold sink that big that many rich people would want would be sweet to have me thinks. Maybe I don't like the guild hall my guild has, maybe I'm tired of not being able to talk to several people in a sort of little chat room (what would be a house), I hate keeping track of all these different PMs, and I hate always having to go to the storage and try and find her amongst all the warriors that insist on standing right over her.

Yeah it's way more expensive than a guild hall, but who cares? If people want it, let them pay that much, gold sinks are a good thing to keep rich people more average.

As a more general note...

I am DEFINATELY up for this, I would adore owning a little cabin or stone hut or something I could go in, a table to put my items, and maybe a closet to put other armor sets! A weapon's cabinet, etc. And just a place to talk with non-guild members, that's something you can't do with a guild hall. I'd like to be able to let anyone in that I want, just sit around and talk. If I could own a house in guild wars, I'd be much much happier, as not only would it allow for some of the options mentioned above, but it would be a way to be unique in a sense, I'd like having a different house than everyone else, it'd be wicked.

you dont *have* to rip off the sims to have homes that you pop stuff in

anyone remeber Animal Crossing?

just make homes a box *to the game, al least* of say, 9x9 squares, and beds, dressers ect take up 2 squares, chairs n tables take up 1 and let you carry the item in yer inventry and just *drop* said furniture in yer home

plus, you could have the sets.
warrior set. its all charr fur rugs, charr leather seats and the decoratives are trophys from Boss mobs...*imagine the dragons head over yer fireplace* hehehe

Ranger Set, natural stuff, with bamboo and grass weaves and bows on the walls
Necro set..whoo boy, bone and here comes halloween style *grins*

see what i mean? you wouldnt have to get a set, but if you liked a set, you could collect it, and trade, yes, trade maybe in a furnitutre trading house, for stuff you wanted with other players. no fee to trade, so if you wanted to get something for free, swap your Necro Bone Armchair with a Necro for his Ranger Bamboo Sofa :P

(moderated by a xuni storeage npc, so be carefull, once you hit the 'do the deal' button, its done and swapped.)
